Current Projects

AQSIOS

The goal of this project is to design a new generation of data stream management systems (DSMSs), with equal emphasis on optimizing performance and enhancing functionality.

User-Centric Data Management

The goal of this project is to promote quality on the Web into a first-class citizen, by (1) exposing quality information from Web data sources, (2) empowering users to specify their preferences for the different dimensions of quality (Quality of Service, Quality of Data, Quality of Information) through an intuitive, integrated framework, called Quality Agreements (QAs), and (3) influencing resource allocation decisions according to user preferences.

AstroShelf

This project pursues three research directions, each of which has the potential to transform how astronomers interface with large datasets: (1) a scalable annotation framework to enable linking of observations to specific experiments, models, or other observations; (2) a continuous workflow enactment system that would support automated reasoning in the presence of uncertainty; and (3) a computational framework for interactively analyzing astronomical datasets, allowing the construction and testing of hypotheses.

Energy-Efficient Transaction Processing

This project is an early venture into a very new area, seeking to identify the most appropriate metrics for energy efficiency (QoE) in TP environments, the most appropriate ways to combine these energy efficiency metrics with existing quality of service (QoS) metrics and the most appropriate ways to specify any trade-off between QoE and QoS.

CONFLuEnCE

The goal of this project is to build a continuous workflow execution engine, based upon our continuous workflow model. This will serve as a generic platform for designing and executing workflows to serve monitoring, reactive and collaborative applications, by integrating data stream processing together with the existing workflow semantics.

Past Projects

CMPI

The Center for Modeling Pulmonary Immunity is a joint effort between the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Michigan, funded by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Secure CITI

The Self-secure and robust Critical Information Technology Infrastructure project (S-CITI for short) aims at providing support to Emergency Managers (EMs) that are faced with management of resources and with decisions before, during, and after emergencies or disasters.

MBDD

MBDD is Middleware for web-Based multicast Data Dissemination a software package for supporting multicast in a web-based framework using both client and server sfotware.
